Futuring Service Design Education

I was part of a webinar panel discussion on the future of service design education hosted by the Macromedia University of Applied Sciences. My simple statement was this: What service design lacks is content knowledge. True deep expertise of, and respect for the domains in which we work. Too much attention in education goes to tooling and methodology and not enough attention goes to understanding politics, societal context, market mechanisms and business logic. As the topics we work on become ever more complex and systemic, we need to train our research muscle not only to understand end-users but also the systems that they are part of.
